Music Mythbusters

Tale Of Tunings And Effects

You see
ever since my first
SERIOUS
band
Aneselle
got into abit of trouble when our 2nd guitarist
Got more dedicated to his
Grindcore
band
Yes
Friggin pigs and blast beats
I have had a love hate relationship
with the genre and the music itself

Whats more is that
I find
People are tuning down
a freakking lot
Well
I am a Metal Guitarist too
Am I not "Heavy" anymore?
LOL

So, the mini Myth I want to bust today is
Does Tuning Down Make You Heavier?
My opinion
NO
LOL
heck
tuning down means you might miss
2 high notes from your guitar
well,
people who tune down
Don't generally use the higher register of the guitar
unless they are playing technical stuff

HOWEVER
I know for a fact
that tuning does not make the guitarist sound heavier
the guitarist makes the guitarist sound heavier
Examples?
Okay
Muhammad Suicmez of Necrophagist
his tuning is a mere D# standard
and he can sound heavier than most of the grinders out there
Andy LaRocque of King Diamond
One of the most influential metal bands in the past
yet Andy was in standard tuning!
So
The norm still goes
Its not how low you are tuned
Its how you use your guitar

So
what about me
Do I tune down?
Nope
I stick to Drop D and E Standard
Why?
Cause I like it
and most of the songs I know
are in those tunings
All in all
Its up to the guitarist
and his guitar
Follow your heart people
Don't go too low
Unless you need to

Now
For the other extreme
Effects Hogs
yes
Those people
who spend their own money
sometimes their parent's money
on effects
a shitload of it
and most of the time
NOT USING IT
what
is
wrong
with you people?

Well, my 2nd mini myth goes
Do you need that many effects?
Well
come to my house
You can see now that
my GFX-3 multieffects pedal
IS ON BYPASS
and my amp?
EQ ARE ALL AT 0
AND I AM ON CLEAN

But seriously
Why people why
okay
If you are gonna be using the effects alot
than by all means
get the distortion pedal
But come on
Chorus,delay,reverb, tremolo, phaser, flanger
And you only use each for like
one song
other than reverd or delay or chorus that is
My suggestion
Get a multieffect pedal
Seriously
I actually
support a multi effect pedal
Why?
Cause it helps you learn the power of each individual effect
without having to buy a ton of analog effects
It might not be as good
But its a starting point to know what you need as a musician
So remember
Do not buy pedals on impulse
If you want to be a effects hog
get a multi effect pedal
Know what you need?
Then you get the analog
Lastly
If you yourself
with the guitar
clean as a bone
without any effects
low tunings
no nothing
can sound awesome
Effects and different tunings
will help you improve your sound
But remember
never
and I mean NEVER
Be a slave to them
